Ok, lets review the facts of the Christmas Day terrorist attack on Northwest Flight 253. Northwest Flight 253 originated in Amsterdam terminating in Detroit on Christmas Day. Within the last hour a passenger Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, returned from the restroom complaining of stomach pains passenger Jasper Schuringa of Amsterdam tells CNN that he heard a pop and saw smoke, and that other passengers were screaming "fire” so He climbed over seats to stop a man from trying to blow up the plain. The plane landed safely.

Those are the basic facts as I am aware.
This is a very serious failure of the agencies that are responsible for the security of passengers on airplanes, railways and men woman and children of our country. The head of these departments are all very intellectual with no doubt degrees from Ivory league schools. They are supposed to be the best this country has to offer, yet they continue to fail... The first attack on the Trade Center, 911, the "shoe bomber", Fort Hood terrorist attack and now the “underwear bomber”.
It just totally amazes how elderly passengers must get out of wheel chair; passengers take off their shoes, jewelry, belts, empty all contents of their pockets and baggage x-rayed before entering the plane Yet a person on a watch database can walk up to a ticket counter buy a ticket to the United States in cash, have no baggage, get an explosive accelerant past the TSA screener and on to a plane.
I am sure the agencies that are responsible for identifying these indicators have layers of bureaucracy and managers that attend many meetings and submit reports on time. The problem is that it appears the lack of people with practical application techniques are not employed by these agencies or are not in the position to affect an outcome.
As I review the situation based on the information that is issued to the public combined  my knowledge of security models I find that there is still a lack of communication. the agencies still do not share information with each other on a timely real timer manner, this is a must and was one of the findings in the 911 report. Yet this continues to be a week point. Having worked with officers from DHLS and the FBI  I know they have their so called “territory" when it comes to gathered intelligence. This attitude must change for them to continue to be successful. Also countries must share information on flagged individuals.
Just as with the Fort Hood terrorist attack several indicates were missed. The leadership of our country must take security seriously and should not depend on a system that is currently in place. The Bush administration were not good managers nor leaders they created agencies that were not accountable to anyone and a sharing of information model was not created nor thought about. It is time that the heads of theses agencies be replaced with leaders and managers with practical application techniques regardless of were the manager attend college or what type of degree that was attained. let the administrator write protocol based on the model the person with practical application techniques provide. That will be a good start to repairing a system with models that is becoming out dated. It is time that we think and act out of the box.
